El premio Nobel de la Paz fue para el presidente colombiano Juan Manuel Santos. A menos de una semana del triunfo del No al acuerdo de Paz con las FARC, el Comité Nobel Noruego eligió a Santos por su “esfuerzos decididos en poner fin a la guerra civil que lleva más de 50 años”, según el argumento oficial de la distinción.
El presidente colombiano dijo que lo recibía en nombre del pueblo y de las víctimas del conflicto armado.

Por su parte, el premio Nobel de la Paz Adolfo Pérez Esquivel dijo a Contagio Radio de Colombia que el reconocimiento al presidente Santos puede ayudar a alcanzar la paz.

El premio Nobel de la Paz se atribuye cada año a «la persona que haya trabajado más o mejor en favor de la fraternidad entre las naciones, la abolición o reducción de los ejércitos existentes y la celebración y promoción de procesos de paz».
